PTA announces training schedule
Military units are scheduled to conduct various types of training at the Pohakuloa Training Area in February that might be heard or observed by the surrounding communities.
The monthly schedule is produced to alert neighbors of upcoming training activities that are louder in nature and might be heard or noticed outside the military installation.
Times and dates are subject to change:
• Feb. 4-15 (Army): Mounted gunnery training.
• Feb. 5-23 (Marines): Helicopter gunnery training.
• Feb. 13-28 (Marines): Helicopter gunnery training.
• Feb. 16-17 (Army): Helicopter gunnery training.
The military appreciates the understanding and continued support of Hawaii Island communities.

Retailer showing love for ‘ohi‘a
Big Island retail shop Aloha Grown recently launched a special collection of ‘Ohi‘a Love apparel and accessories in an effort to support and promote ‘ohi‘a sustainability.
Rapid ‘ohi‘a death is the fungal disease attacking and killing ‘ohi‘a, one of the most culturally significant and biologically important native tree in the state. On the Big Island alone, hundreds of thousands of ‘ohi‘a have died because of this disease epidemic.
The Aloha Grown ‘Ohi‘a Love merchandise includes apparel for men, women and keiki, in addition to caps, lanyards, tote bags and stickers. A portion of every ‘Ōhi‘a Love sale will be donated to the Rapid ‘Ohi‘a Death Strategic Response Plan Fund through the UH Foundation.
