The enrollment period for federal Affordable Care Act policies for people without health insurance is open until Dec. 15.
Hawaii health officials advise consumers to consider if the doctor they like is part of an available plan and which drugs are and are not covered, in addition to premiums.
Insurance Commissioner Gordon Ito said premiums are increasing, but will likely be offset by premium subsidies.
Insurance companies won’t get federally reimbursed for cost-sharing reductions but must still give them “to low-income individuals and families who qualify, and who purchase a Silver plan through HealthCare.gov.” Those with subsidies “may find that Bronze and Gold plans are more affordable than in the past.”
People without subsidies are advised to avoid inadvertently getting a higher-priced Silver plan.
