Hawaii Learning Resource will offer a free teacher workshop titled “Instructional Tools, Accommodations and Interventions that Work: Supporting the Behavioral Needs of Students with ADHD in the General Education Classroom” from 8 a.m.-noon Feb. 20 at Honokaa Elementary School, Room K-14.
This workshop will provide general education teachers with tools to support students with behavioral needs, including students who are formally diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Presenters will focus on three levels of support for these students, including building a strong foundation in classroom management in order to promote attention and engagement of all learners; various accommodations and how to appropriately implement them in the general education setting; and specific behavioral interventions that have been shown effective for improving on-task behavior for students with ADHD when less intensive strategies have been exhausted.
Educators of all grade levels are welcome to attend. The workshop will be presented by Dr. Sara Cook, assistant professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and Cory Cook, a school-based behavioral health specialist in the Hawaii Department of Education.
