The state Department of Health reported Tuesday afternoon a single additional confirmed case of dengue fever on Hawaii Island, bringing the total to 182.
The state Department of Health reported Tuesday afternoon a single additional confirmed case of dengue fever on Hawaii Island, bringing the total to 182.
“Currently, as many as two of the confirmed cases to date are potentially infectious to mosquitoes,” the DOH website stated. “All others are no longer infectious.”
Both potentially infectious cases experienced onset of symptoms Dec. 20.
The 180 confirmed cases that are no longer infectious experienced onset between Sept. 11 and Dec. 18.
Of the confirmed cases, 164 are Hawaii Island residents and 18 are visitors. Adults comprise 146 cases, while 36 have been children younger than 18. A total of 727 reported potential cases have been ruled out by health officials as dengue fever.
County and state workers continue to spray residences of all suspect and confirmed cases, according to Hawaii County Civil Defense, in addition to spraying at nearby public facilities.
