The Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce and Hope Services Hawaii Inc. invite everyone to attend an informational presentation about how individuals and businesses can create safer communities through mentoring of ex-offenders, while making a positive difference in an individual’s life.

The free presentation will be from 8-9 a.m. Jan. 14, 2016, in the Hawaii Innovation Center Conference Room, 117 Keawe St. There is street parking only. The event includes a continental breakfast.

Nonprofit Hope Services Hawaii specializes in homeless services, outreach and residential housing programs, drop-in centers and prison re-entry services. The organization recently was awarded a grant from the state Department of Public Safety to provide mentoring coordination services to inmates housed at the Hawaii Community Corrections Center (Hale Nani) who are in the process of transitioning back into their communities.

The presentation will help participants gain an understanding of:

• Services provided by Hope Services Hawaii.

• The population being served (national and Big Island statistics).

• The impacts of incarceration on the community.

• Why mentoring is successful.

• What people can do to make a difference.

Pre-registration is required. Contact the Chamber office at 935-7178 or email admin@hicc.biz.
