Hilo Invitational Pro-Am is Friday
In its new summer slot, the Hilo Invitational tees of at 11 a.m. Friday at Hilo Municipal Golf Course with a Pro-Am.
Traditionally held in the winter, the tournament was cancelled last year because of rain. In 2012, four-time champion Nick Mason claimed a shortened 18-hole event.
Mason, a former University of Hawaii at Hilo golfer, is back to defend his title, and other notables in the field include former champion Jarett Hamamoto, TJ Kua, Jared Sawada, Nainoa Calip, Dalen Yamauchi and Chris Igawa.
The 36-hole championship begins Saturday. The Pro-Am concludes at noon — pros’ scores will count toward stroke play — and the rest of the field goes off at 7 a.m.
Sunday’s round starts at 7 a.m.
Pahoa High seeking coaches
The Pahoa High School athletic department is seeking a head coach for boys/girls paddling and a head coach for girls soccer for the 2014-15 school year.
Applications can be picked up at the school office or athletic director’s office during school hours.
The school is also holding mandatory parents/students meeting for the following sports:
l 8-man football team, at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11 at the school gym.
l Girls volleyball, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13 at the school gym.

Youth basketball, volleyball leagues
The Department of Parks and Recreation will hold an organizational meeting for 10-and-under basketball at 5 p.m. Aug. 5 at Aunty Sally’s Luau House.
A meeting for a 12U and 10U volleyball league is set for 5 p.m. Wednesday at Aunty Sally’s Luau House.
Both leagues are scheduled to run Sept. 8-Nov. 6.

Special Olympics golf tournament
Special Olympics East Hawaii will hold its seventh annual golf tournament on Aug. 24 at Hilo Naniloa Golf Course.
The format will be a four-person modified scramble, and each group will include a Special Olympics athlete. Entry fee is $150 per golfer, and Special Olympians will play for free.
The tee time is at 8 a.m. and all proceeds go to Special Olympics East Hawaii Golf.
The entry fee includes the round of golf, cart, lunch, and 19th hole awards and prizes.

HI-PAL seeking tourney entrants
The Hawaii Island Police Activities League is seeking teams interested in playing in “Click It or Ticket” 5-on-5 basketball tournaments August 30-31 at Papaikou Gym and September 12-14 at Waiakea Uka Gym.
Both 5-6 division and 7-8 division teams are being sought for the August tournament.
Both 9-10 division and 11-12 division teams are being sought for the September tournament.
The deadline to enter and submit all completed forms to participate in the tournament is Sept. 1.
The age cutoff for the tournaments is Dec. 31. Players are allowed to play on only one team per division.
All HI-PAL roster, waiver and seat belt forms are required for participation.

Puna AYSO registration
The Puna section of the American Youth Soccer Organization will accept fall registration from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Shipman field.
The season runs from mid-August to November, and AYSO accepts girls and boys between the ages of 4-18. Practice days and game schedule to be determined once registration is complete.

The fee is $65, and late registration after Aug. 3 will be $75.
