Army officials are opening the Keamuku training area Saturday and Sunday, 5 a.m.-7:30 p.m. for shotgun or or bow hunting of bearded turkey (gobbler), and training areas 2, 10, and 11 for bow hunting of mammals.
For shotgun hunting, no slugs are permitted.
Hunters enter and exit the Keamuku training area through gates 2 and 7 on Old Saddle Rd and through gates 11 and 14 on Highway 190 on New Saddle Road. Parking is accessible in the designated area by mile markers 49 and 50. No parking is allowed on the shoulders of the highways.
Hunting areas will be monitored by federal and local law enforcement agencies.
For training areas 2, 10 and 11, hunters enter and exit through gates 1-5 on New Saddle Road. For training areas 10 and 11, hunters enter andexit through gates 1-6 on New Saddle Road.
Secure all gates upon entry and exit.
Hunting passes will be provided at the check-in stations beginning Friday after 5 p.m. These passes must be signed and placed on the vehicle’s dashboard. Hunters who do not have a signed hunting pass on their dashboard will be barred from hunting for 30 days.
All hunters must check-in and check out at one of the following hunter’s check-in stations: Kilohana, located on Saddle Road between mile markers 43 and 44; Pu‘u Huluhulu, located at the intersection of Mauna Kea Access Road and Saddle Road near mile marker 28; or Pu‘u Anahulu check-in station, located in the vicinity of mile marker 14 on Hwy 190.
Check-out time is no later than 7:30 p.m. each day.
By law, no live game shall be removed from Keamuku or any hunting area. Bag limits will be enforced by Hawaii Hunting Rules.
Firearms, alcoholic beverages, all-terrain vehicles, dirt bikes and/or recreational vehicles are not allowed in the training and hunting areas.
