A hearing will be held to determine the fitness of a Leilani Estates man accused of shooting his landlord’s son in the chest with a spear gun.
A hearing will be held to determine the fitness of a Leilani Estates man accused of shooting his landlord’s son in the chest with a spear gun.
Two mental health professionals, psychiatrist Dr. Henry Yang and psychologist Dr. Dennis Donovan, found Georg Robert Curnutt fit to stand trial, while a third, psychiatrist Dr. Andrew Bisset, found Curnutt unfit.
On Tuesday, Hilo Circuit Judge Glenn Hara ordered Curnutt to appear for a contested hearing at 9 a.m. Feb. 6.
Curnutt, who has pleaded not guilty to attempted second-degree murder, is accused of shooting and seriously wounding 20-year-old William Sullivan on June 25 during an altercation at the Sullivans’ Leilani Avenue property.
The spear punctured the pericardium, the membrane that protects the heart.
Curnutt remains in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Sullivan, who is facing felony drug charges unrelated to the incident, is also incarcerated at HCCC.
